We will dive into the traditional choreography of Sevillanas, breaking down the essential components of this structured dance form, and ways to make it your own. It is the perfect entry point to traditional Spanish and flamenco dance. Whether you’re brand new or you’ve learned Sevillanas in the past, join us to deepen your understanding and practice together.

About the instructor:

Marie’s dance background began in classical ballet and modern dance, studying from a young age at the School of Cleveland Ballet, and continuing at Kent State University, and in workshops and master classes in the Cleveland area. Her journey with flamenco began in tandem with her musician husband, Jim, when they attended their first flamenco performance together over 20 years ago. With this inspiration and new-found passion, Marie started classes in flamenco and Spanish folk dance first in Boston with Ramón de los Reyes and his dancers. After moving to Cleveland, Marie studied under Libby Lubinger and performed with Fairmount Spanish Dancers. Deepening understanding of the infinite layers of this artform continued through workshops and intensives with La Romera, and visiting artists including Cihtli Ocampo, LaConja, Wendy Clinard, and Marija Temo. Marie began studying with Alice Lawhorn 5 years ago and performs with Abrepaso’s community group, En Camino.
