Abrepaso Receives ArtsNext Grant for Ni más / ni menos
Abrepaso is excited to announce we received an ArtsNEXT Grant from the Ohio Arts Council as part of their historic $23.3 million in grants across the state of Ohio. We are so grateful to the OAC, the State Legislators, the Governor, and all the people of Ohio for continuing to make Ohio a great place to make art.
ArtsNEXT provides competitive funding for innovative and experimental projects. Awards support big ideas that push boundaries, engage participants in unexpected ways, pilot new solutions to challenging problems, improve program design with calculated risk-taking, or result in the creation of new work. These forward-looking projects help define Ohio as an exciting, cutting-edge place to make, consume, and experience the arts. We are so proud to be making Ni más / ni menos right here in Ohio and doing our small part to keep the state at the forefront of the arts and flamenco world.
Ni más / ni menos is a bold new interdisciplinary performance that explores the struggle for balance in an increasingly fractured world.
Featuring original music by internationally acclaimed composer and multi-instrumentalist Adam Ben Ezra, this stripped-down, emotionally raw work builds on the critically praised A Periplum. It continues the innovative collaboration between Felise Bagley, celebrated contemporary dancer and founding member of GroundWorks DanceTheater, and Alice Blumenfeld, a national leader in flamenco’s evolution. Along with the duo’s choreography. the work features a new piece by Sevilla-based Cristina Hall, Abrepaso’s first outside commission.
Together, the artists of Ni más / ni menos blend perspectives for work that is rooted, but not bound. Free of stereotypes. Stark, intimate, and electric. Their shared choreographic language and heterodox approach blurs the lines between forms, bringing the tension and tenderness of real human dialogue to life through movement and sound.
Ni más / ni menos invites audiences into a world where balance is never still, where the push and pull of internal and external forces reveals the power of presence, communication, and surrender.
The work makes its Cleveland premiere Nov. 20th and 21st at the Cultural Arts Center at Disciples Church.
